Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

The Mastercard Foundation has teamed up with the University of Cape Town to offer excellent university education to bright students from financially disadvantaged communities across Africa.

ELIGIBILITY: Citizens of any African nation who exhibit academic excellence, financial need, a willingness to contribute to their communities, and a dedication to upholding ethical leadership and initiating constructive changes in their home communities are eligible for this scholarship. The eligibility criteria, however, differ between the undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

AWARD: Those who are granted the scholarship will receive complete fee exemptions covering their tuition, travel, living costs, medical insurance, and lodging expenses.

Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program

University of Cape Town International and Refugee Scholarships

Every year, the University of Cape Town provides scholarships to international and refugee students who are pursuing Honors, Masters, or Doctoral degrees. The objective of these scholarships is to alleviate the financial constraints that students face, enabling them to pursue higher education without financial worries.

ELIGIBILITY: Eligibility varies between programs.

AWARD: Those awarded Honors will receive R25,000, Masters awardees will receive R30,000, and Doctoral awardees will receive R35,000. The scholarship will be renewable each year, provided that applicants maintain a satisfactory academic record.

University of Cape Town International and Refugee Scholarships

Masters Degree in Human Rights and Democratization in Africa Scholarship

The University of Pretoria provides a highly esteemed, one-year intensive program in which 25-30 exceptional individuals will spend six months studying in Pretoria and another six months at one of the 12 partner universities located throughout Africa. Renowned educators in human rights will provide instruction to the students, who will also participate in numerous hands-on training activities.

ELIGIBILITY: Citizens of any African country who hold either a first degree in Law or an Honors degree that pertains to Human Rights are eligible for this scholarship.

AWARD: Those who are awarded this scholarship will receive complete fee exemptions covering their tuition, accommodation, and program activities.
