The ECOWAS Passport is a travel document issued to citizens of member states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for the purpose of facilitating regional travel within the ECOWAS sub-region. The ECOWAS member states include Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.

The ECOWAS Passport looks similar to a regular passport, but it bears the emblem of the ECOWAS on its cover and contains biometric features such as a microchip and biometric data of the holder. The passport is issued by the national authorities of member states to their citizens who apply for it and meet the requirements.

The ECOWAS Passport allows its holder to travel freely within the ECOWAS sub-region without the need for a visa, and it is valid for five years from the date of issuance. It is an important tool for promoting regional integration, facilitating movement of people, goods, and services, and fostering closer cooperation among ECOWAS member states.

All Citizens of Nigeria are eligible for a Nigerian Passport, provided that they satisfy all conditions prescribed by law.

Ecowas Passport for Nigerian Citizens

The Nigerian Immigration Service is responsible for issuing the Passport. This can done in all state capitals of the federation. You can apply for the passport online here or physically by visiting any of the offices at the state capital. The process can take a couple of days of even months depending on several factors.
